The Commandant1994 BApS GD/S/1905 Breeding
Performance"Ben" competed in hand as a 2 and 3 year old, acquiring numerous in-hand breed championships and overall supreme championships at County level. As a two-year-old he was reserve national champion at the BapS National Show. As a four-year-old he started competing both in-hand and under saddle winning both sections and championships again at County Level. He followed in his mothers footsteps (Tarian was my fathers hunter and hunted 25 seasons with the Llangibby in South Wales, field mastering for 10 of those years) and started Hunting as a four year old with the Ludlow, where his manners were exemplary. He was graded with the BapS as a two year old in the first grading run by the BapS and received the highest scores of the day, losing only 8 marks in total. Sadly whilst out for a quiet hack early in his fifth year, we were hit by a car towing a trailer and his hind leg tendon was severed requiring extensive surgery at Liverpool University. Despite numerous attempts to return him to work his tendon has never been able to withstand the pressure cutting short a promising future in dressage and showjumping. He undertakes his stud duties via Artificial Insemination and his gentle nature enables us to collect a sample without the use of a dummy mare, thereby avoiding any further damage to his tendon. With the recent installation of a horse walker it is hoped that we will be able to return him to some light ridden work and possibly some dressage competitions later this year, fingers crossed. Progeny"Ben" has produced 100% colour to date, the best colour being produced from solid coloured mares. All his foals have inherited his wonderful laid back temperament and many mare owners have come back to use him again and again. Very few of his foals have been sold on as most owners have been loathed to part with them. He is the ideal stallion for producing great fun all-round horses suitable for every discipline and that stand out from the crowd. Fee£350 N.F.F.R.
